Home
The Akatarawa Valley offers a lifestyle unsurpassed in the Wellington region. There is room here to spread out and enjoy all the best that New Zealand has to offer: clean rivers, native forests, steep hills and gorges.

However our isolation and a history of floods, fires and accidents means that we cannot rely on emergency services. In a civil emergency, we are on our own.

Which is why local residents formed the Akatarawa Valley Emergency Response Team, to provide immediate relief until the emergency services arrive.

AVERT

AVERT is an incorporated society to
  • provide emergency help for its members as and when required
  • promote a community spirit amongst members
  • encourage a working relationship with the professional emergency services
  • encourage people within our community to skilfully respond to emergencies
  • provide suitable resources, within our means, to deal with emergency situations within the scope of AVERT objectives
  • promote preventative actions to avoid emergencies.
  • Membership of AVERT extends from house numbers 1198 to 1522D and the formed part of Karapoti Road. This is the "Upper Hutt" side of the Valley and falls within clear geographic confines.

An annual membership fee of $20 per household covers purchase and maintenance of shared emergency equipment.

At present, well over 90% of the households in this area are members. New residents may apply for Membership by the Liaison Officer.
Further into the Valley, Cloustonville has a separate support team - contact Staglands for details.
